This was the scene that we woke up to on Saturday, and it definitely puts me in good mood for the rest of the weekend. Apparently, we get such good sunsets and sunrises here because of the volcanic activity (or something).
Because we were up bright and early, we went down to use the gym in our apartment building. It's very small, but we were the only ones I there. We definitely need to start going regularly to burn off some calories from all the amazing food we've been eating!
I went and had my hair done in the afternoon which was a real treat as I've not been to the hairdressers since leaving the UK. On Saturday night we went out for a curry with work friends (ok food- not as good as Great India, chefs clearly not from Leicester) which was good fun, then met up with some other friends in a pub called the Southern Cross. It's only a five minute walk from where we live, and I can't believe that we haven't made it there before.
The Metro newspaper in London ranked it as one of the top 5 beer gardens in the world, and it is pretty cool. It's really beautifully decorated with lamps, chandeliers, fairy lights and bunting, and they have a log fire as well as outdoor heaters. And if its still a bit chilly, they give out hot water bottles and blankets!
There was also a free gig on - a band called Niko Ne Zna who describe themselves as "New Zealand's very own Balkan Gypsy Brass extravaganza." So that clears that up!
Random but Fun
Part of the Beer Garden
