When we arrived, we drove straight down to the West Coast to our first stop, Barrytown. We stopped at Punakaki en route to see the 'pancake rocks'. The rocks are named for obvious reasons, and there are also blow holes in the rocks where the tide smashes up against them and shoots water out of holes that have been created over thousands of years. The weather was pretty miserable by the time we arrived, but the rough sea actually made it more impressive. The noise that the water makes as it smashes up against the rock is quite astounding.
Bye Wellington!
