We had booked a bach in Ohakune this weekend with the intention of going snowboarding again. However, like anywhere in the world, you can't rely on the weather. It was really wet which meant poor visability, and very windy too. The mountain was 'closed' which means that they don't operate any of the lifts or facilities, so definitely no snowboarding for us.
Because we'd booked the bach in advance, we decided to go away for the weekend anyway. The whole area is very pretty, and we managed to get a walk in on Saturday morning before it started raining. The waterfall was used for some scenes in one of The Lord of the Rings films, apparently. We spent the rest of the weekend just relaxing, and watching the Americas Cup sailing (although the less said about that the better....). Looks like we'll have to wait until next season to get the boards back out. Oh well, roll on summer!
